Origin
Originally from Japan, a cross of Saaz and Brewer’s Gold hops. Our Sorachi Ace hops are grown by Virgil Gamache Farms in the Yakima, Washington State.
Sorachi Ace are the result of a Japanese hop breeding programme, which aimed to create a new hop variety with flavours similar to Saaz but higher alpha value (an extra kick).
The variety has been used in Japan since the mid-1980s. Outside Japan, Sorachi Ace have only been widely commercially available since 2006.
We have to thank Darren Gamache, who took a punt and started growing Sorachi Ace on US soil in the early 2000s.
